Drumnaph Nature Reserve
Welcome to Drumnaph Nature Reserve
Drumnaph is open every day of the year and is completely free of charge to visitors.
The Reserve is jointly owned and managed by Carntogher Community Association and The Woodland Trust. Both organisations collaborate to ensure the ongoing protection and maintenance of this special remnant of ancient Irish landscape.
Nestled on the edge of the Sperrins, the Reserve boasts a rich variety of habitats including ancient woodland, wetland, bog and meadow with the Grillagh River running along its edge. It is a haven for wildlife and you are sure to get a glimpse of something special during your visit.
The graded walking trails guide you through the nature reserve where you will find plenty of places to relax and enjoy a picnic.
You might see our rare breed cows and sheep used for conservation grazing, and of course a range of local wildlife who have made their home in Drumnaph.

St Lurach Church & Maghera Walled Garden
An ancient church & One of the oldest gardens in Ireland
The church in Maghera is named after St Lurach who was reputedly one of the original saints to be evangelized by St Patrick himself. The church has elements of a 6th-century monastery, a 12th-century Cathedral, and an 18th-century tower. St Lurach was a member of the Royal Colla Uais clan that dominated Mid-Ulster in the early Christian period and his headstone can still be seen today in the adjoining graveyard which possibly dates to the 10th century. Located beside the church are the beautiful and award-winning Maghera walled gardens. This was once the garden of a 4th-century Royal dwelling and has probably supplied food and flowers for the church for the next 1500 years! It has recently been restored and now yet again supplies the community with fruit and vegetables, plots for growing a variety of flowers, and space for community art.
Maghera Walled Garden
Maghera Walled Garden is a restored Victorian Garden on the grounds of a medieval 4th-century royal dwelling and ancient Monastery.
The garden lies within an impressive stone wall, and contains many varied herbaceous borders, fruit trees, a herb garden, vegetable beds and a wild flower meadow.
The Maghera Walled Garden provides the community with an area for producing fruit and vegetables, plots for growing a variety of flowers and space for community art. Maghera Walled Garden has received the prestigious Green Flag Award in 2016 and 2019.

Gorta
Nestled in the heart of Swatragh, Gorta is a new visitor centre that immerses guests in the village's rich history and the remarkable legacy of Dr. Mooney. Created by Dermot Friel, the centre was inspired by the 1992 discovery of an original famine pot during lockdown. The centre takes visitors back to the mid-1800s when Dr. Mooney and his wife, Sarah, ran a surgery and dispensary at this location. During the Great Hunger (An Gorta Mór), they established a private soup kitchen to help those in need.
